Types of Tanning Beds
It is important to understand that
Tanning beds perform differently just as each individuals' skin
will tan differently. Some tanning beds produce several
different combinations of Ultraviolet A and B light than others,
and therefore produce varied results.
Some beds are intended to
stimulate production of the melanin pigment in your skin,
while others simply tan the pigment. These varied types all play
vital roles, but in the end the type of bed that's best
for you depends on a wide variety of questions and desired
results. This is a very individualized process that one must
carefully asses. Generally, speaking to a tanning salon
specialist or dermatologist is your best bet.
From a technical standpoint, beds
are classed by the following - A, B, C, and D. Which type of
used bed you're after will depend on budget, size, and lifestlye.
The A Class of equipment produces
results 6-8 times faster than basic equipment and generally
requires one or two monthly sessions for tan 'maintenance'. They
emit much less UVB rays (increased burning potential) and
substantially higher UVA rays (desired 'browning' potential).
These beds are costly, and are typically the most sought after.
B Class beds achieve results 3 to 4 times faster than standard
equipment with decreased burning potential and a richer, browner
color. Generally speaking, only 1-2 sessions per week are needed
for tanning maintenance. B Class equipment is spacious, more
comfortable, and provides for much shorter sessions than their
lower class cousins.
The C class of beds are a slight upgrade from base beds, and
will allow you to develop a tan in roughly 2-3 weeks with with
the same regularity of usage for maintenance. Results are still
achieved roughly 30-50% faster than with base beds. These may
incorporate more lamps for even, balanced results.
Finally, there are the D class beds, often times called "base"
beds. This is the most basic of tanning equipment. Usually these
will Require up to 4 weeks to achieve a tan with regular weekly
sessions for tanning maintenance. These are ideal for those who
have an abundance of time or are on a limited budget. Many
people choose these for home as the added convenience of having
a tanning bed in their residence compensates for the additional
time required to develop a tan.
